What is the difference between Namely Time and Timesheets?

OVERVIEW

Namely Time and Timesheets are two time-tracking options offered by Namely, a cloud-based HR software platform. While both tools are used to track employee work hours, there are some key differences between the two

NAMELY TIME

Namely Time is a time-tracking solution powered by Timeclock Plus. It is primarily used by larger clients to track hours for payroll processing. The data is stored in Timeclock Plus, and employees can access it by clicking My Timesheets on their HRIS profile.

Access

Employees access Namely Time by clicking My Timesheets on their HRIS profile.

Functions

  • Includes automated features, such as holiday population, work schedules, and job codes.

  • Employees can be synced to Namely Time by assigning a Namely Time Employee Role in HRIS under Employee Profiles.

  • Employees' hours worked can be tracked by navigating to the Hours tab and select Individual Hours.

  • Hours can be exported from Namely Time under Period Export.

 

TIMESHEETS

Timesheets is Namely's legacy timekeeping platform and is primarily used by smaller companies with 20 or fewer employees. Timesheets data is stored within Namely Payroll, and employees can record their hours by clicking Timecard/Expense under Payroll from their HRIS profile.

Employees record their hours by clicking Timecard/Expense under Payroll from their HRIS profile.

Functions

  • Some features are not automated such as the holiday population. 

  • Worked hours for employees are tracked in Namely Payroll under the Timesheets tab.

  • Once worked hours are approved under Approve Time Log, hours sync into Step 1 of the current payroll.
